Meet the Ford Transit Work Van
For the last 41 years, Ford has been America’s best-selling full-size commercial van brand. And for 2020, the Transit family of vans is ready to meet your business needs with more configuration choices, more technology, and more efficiency. These work vans have been purpose-built in response to customer feedback to make each Cargo Van and Passenger Van better tailored to their businesses. Changes include an all-new Crew Van model, standard Ford Co‑Pilot360 driver-assist features, available all-wheel drive, one new engine, a responsive new 10‑speed transmission, new seating options, styling changes and new technologies, such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Enhanced Active Park Assist.
Boosting Performance
The new standard 3.5L PFDI V6 gas engine provides ample power compared to the 3.7L engine it replaces. An updated 3.5L Eco-Boost V6 gas engine is also available. Both Transit engines are paired to the new 10‑speed automatic transmission with Select-Shift capability.
Transit comes into 2020 offering two powertrain choices: a new 3.5L port fuel, a direct-injected (PFDI) V6 engine and an enhanced 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine. Both engines are paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission with Selectable Drive Modes and a new-for-2020 all-wheel drive is available. A new heavy-duty front axle and Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package round out the components needed to get more done.
New 10-Speed Transmission
All engines are paired with the new Ford-developed 10‑speed automatic transmission, which is based on the F‑150 transmission but designed specifically for Transit. The 10‑speed transmission has been engineered to provide accelerated warmup to reduce cold-start fuel consumption and contains a standard Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler feature. Drivers can switch between four Selectable Drive Modes for RWD models — Normal, ECO, Slippery and Tow/Haul. An additional fifth Selectable Drive Mode is included with AWD models — Mud/Ruts.
All-Wheel Drive
The on-demand Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive System engages only when needed — which is usually when it senses a loss of traction. In normal operation, the AWD System continuously monitors and optimizes torque output with the capability to send up to 100 percent of available torque to the front wheels to help prevent slipping on loose surfaces. The rear axle also features a limited-slip differential. The AWD system does not raise the load floor or seat height in Transit.
Commercial-Grade GVWR
Transit Chassis Cab and Cutaway models increase their capacity to 11,000‑lb. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). Also, a new available heavy-duty front axle offers a 4,600‑lb. Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR). The heavy-duty front axle is included with AWD models and available on vans with at least 8,550‑lb. GVWR.
With the standard 3.5L PFDI V6, Transit can tow a maximum of 6,400 lbs. when properly equipped, and a maximum of 6,900 lbs. with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine.
Payloads and More
It’s matching the capacity to the situation that counts. Transit Cargo Vans offer at least 3,320 lbs. of payload in a 150 AWD regular wheelbase vehicle with a low roof and can increase up to a maximum of 4,550 lbs. of payload in the 350HD dual-rear wheel, long wheelbase extended length model with a high roof. Incidentally, Cargo Van customers can reinforce their cargo space with available Heavy-Duty Cargo Flooring to enhance durability.
Transit Work Van Interior
Driven by improved comfort and convenience, new swivel driver and front-passenger seats are available in Cargo Van and Cutaway models.
Customer input played a big part in the 2020 Transit being more comfortable and productive. Interior improvements for Transit start with an all-new, five-person Crew Van model added to the 2020 lineup. The new Crew Van features a second row of seats for up to three additional passengers, vinyl flooring, cloth headliner and Safety Canopy airbags. New swivel driver and front-passenger seats are available in Cargo Van and Cutaway. The interior redesign also includes a new instrument panel design and more knee room for front-row passengers.
The new Transit instrument panel design features top storage with a 12‑volt powerpoint and USB port in the new storage spaces. New medium or large center consoles include a second 12‑volt powerpoint. Passenger Van models include a USB port in each of the second, third and fourth rows. The interior redesign also includes new, accessible knobs and button controls for HVAC, audio and available heated seats, plus large bottle and cup holders.
